local food

We currently purchase food from the following local sources on a regular basis:

One of Zia's goals is to support the local food system whenever it makes sense. Sometimes it doesn't work with our budget and business, but most of the time we make it work.

james ranch cattleAll of our beans come from Dove Creek, Colorado. All of our ground beef and flank steak comes from James Ranch, 8 miles north of the restaurant. The barbacoa is made with Colorado beef, including beef from Sunnyside Meats here in Durango. Our vegetables, peppers, salad greens, and cabbage come from local producers when they are available and in season.

We purchased a 2,400 square foot greenhouse in 2008 and use it at La Boca Center for Sustainability to grow tomatoes and peppers throughout the season and in early season to help get starters going earlier. We will continue our investment in local farmers and facilities as long as we are able and as long as opportunities present themselves.

Eating locally grown food makes sense to us and we support it.

If you know of any opportunities where we can get more involved with growing or raising and using more local foods, please let us know.
